Iekei ramen is one of the most recognizable styles of Japanese ramen. A rich pork-and-soy-sauce-based broth, thick noodles, and a classic set of toppings—straightforward, filling, and familiar to many.

For a limited time, Ichikakuya launched a collaboration with Godzilla, offering two special versions: Yokohama Iekei Godzi-Ramen BLACK and RED.

This time, I went with the BLACK version. Partly because black felt more fitting for Godzilla, and partly because I was genuinely curious how far “black” a ramen broth could actually go.

The collaboration is obvious as soon as you arrive. The “Godzi-Ramen” sign at the entrance makes it clear that this is a special, limited menu item.

You don’t need to be a Godzilla fan—or even particularly interested in the franchise—to understand what’s going on here. The idea is simple: take a well-established Iekei ramen and dress it up with a bold, unmistakable theme.

The Yokohama Iekei Godzi-Ramen BLACK makes an impression the moment it arrives. The broth is jet black—dark enough that, for a second, it feels less like food and more like a visual statement.

Before taking the first sip, I found myself being oddly careful, briefly wondering whether a splash of that black broth would leave a mark on my clothes.

Once past that moment, the flavor itself is unmistakably Iekei. Despite being a limited edition, it doesn’t feel experimental or gimmicky. The taste is balanced and familiar, staying close to what fans of traditional Iekei ramen would expect.

Notable points

  • True to the Iekei style: The core flavor remains close to the traditional Iekei profile.
  • Well-balanced toppings: A generous amount of vegetables helps balance the richness.
Each Godzi-Ramen also comes with a randomly selected collectible sticker. The design cannot be chosen.

Saving the RED version for another time

Alongside the BLACK, the collaboration also includes Yokohama Iekei Godzi-Ramen RED, instantly recognizable by its vivid red color.

This time, the RED version stayed on the menu board. Judging by its appearance alone, it seems clearly aimed at those who enjoy spicier flavors—something to come back for on another visit.

Availability and collaboration period

Both Yokohama Iekei Godzi-Ramen BLACK and RED are only available at selected Ichikakuya locations.

The collaboration runs for a limited time: from January 16 to April 13, 2026.

Conclusion

By the time I finished the bowl, the black broth no longer felt unusual. It had settled into something familiar—clearly Iekei ramen, just presented with a bit of theatrical flair.

Limited editions come and go, but this one felt less like a novelty and more like a small detour from something well known. For a brief moment, the Godzilla theme fades into the background, and what remains is simply a bowl of ramen doing what it’s meant to do.
